The pictures are not actually from Tannay. They are way back down the canal, but pretty.

No WIFI connection but we are sitting in a little pub in Tannay where Madame has kindly lent us her computer and we are sitting by the window drinks in hand. The toilettes are very scary – so loud and no lights. However the sun is shining for the first time since Bayes. We have had the most spectacular thunder and lightening, hail and horrendous gusts of wind. We have contended with crazy hireboats in the tunnels (when we read the description of going through locks in their brochure we are not suprised!).

The last two nights we have been in Chitry – had to stay when we discovered there was a circus! Right beside the canal! A family affair with a dancing donkey, the smallest pony I have ever seen, a goat and a camel – the alpacas did not perform! Also all the children were acrobats, jugglers and clowns. It was very sweet and friendly and no one wanted to leave the Big (little) Top because of torrential rain. We biked into Corbigny for essential supplies and I found a couple of interesting Brocantes but Simon did not get a WIFI connection. Visited a beautiful ancient abbey and prowled around the gardens of the closed chateau. The tunnels were amazing but the hardest work has been the lifting bridges, I thought I would never be able to wind the first one up, the second one was easier but I had to run to next lock because it took me so long to get it down again. Few showers and no bread but we found a little van with wonderful pies and salade for lunch after a hilly bike ride. We have just watched the last episode of ‘Outrageous Fortune’ so may be reduced to cards or a French movie to-night. Miss all our animals – and family and friends too – especially after meeting a family with a beautiful dog like Tansy who runs along the tow-path beside the boat.
