We have had a wonderful few days with Dan and Hugo (see Dan’s photos ) slightly marred by me falling off my bike and developing very lurid and painful bruises. We also heard that our house has been red stickered because of boulders.
In spite of mishaps life on the canal is pretty good. We have been sharing our resting spot at Agen with a flock of pretty ducks and visiting dogs. Across the road was a big truck with a large family, a small goat and a cast array with dogs. There are some ratty creatures who live in the banks and disappear down holes very swiftly. Dan and Hugo went swimming in the river and there are great showers at the Haulte Nautique.
We stopped at Serignac for a night, a gorgeous ancient village with wonderful take away pizzas as an added bonus. The trip there took much longer than we expected because of a broken lock so we were all ready for a hearty Ulster fry for lunch.
Last night was Bastille day and we enjoyed incredible fireworks on the river preceded by some full on opera from a barge with some very garish lighting. The fireman’s ball took place at the station just beside where we were parked. Even although we didn’t get home until after 12 they were dancing until after 4. We read.
