A very different and beautiful stretch of our trip. After a lovely day up the Orb valley walking through the peaceful village of Olargue and swimming in the river we had wonderful meal with Antony and Vincente accompanied by a magnificent orage, the rain was so heavy we sheltered in the car before making a mad dash inside.
Next day we were back on the canal and on to Vias. Another splendid orage on the way with plenty of thunder and lightening. Up the river to Bessan after going through the big round lock at Agde and having a swim and hairwash in the l’Hérault. The wild life was amazing, we saw snakes swimming in the water – fortunately after swimming ourselves or I mightn’t have been brave enough; turtles basking on logs and a multitude of birds of all sorts. The fish were enormous and the little ones entertained me all afternoon. We had dinner at the restaurant overlooking the river l’Hérault with a nice view of Lady Mary.
It is hot and the insect life is also active, especially at night. Dan and Mark have been bitten by mosquitos. My plants are settling in and we can now have fresh herbs thanks to Anthony driving us for hardware and plants.
