We have had a very pleasant journey from Venarey-les-laumes to Dijon with Jenny and Hilde. I am sitting on Lady Mary in the very weedy harbour waiting for Dan and Liza and Hugo to find us. It is scorching hot, sometimes hard to sleep at nights. This last stretch has been peaceful and wooded and a very straightforward trip to-day. We have had a few long hot hauls when we were relieved to stop for the night and yesterday had a frustrating evening when we walked to a highly recommended restaurant and found it and everywhere else closed. Toasted cheese on the barbeque with plenty of fine wine was a pretty good substitute. We have had some both strenuous and cruisey bike rides and a few hot walks through pretty villages. The highlight for me was the Pouilly tunnel – nearly 4km long but quite well lit. We had to have life jackets for everyone and show our lights and horn worked and have a bucket. It was also very pleasant to star going down locks instead of up – much less hard work.

We have met a wide range of friendly dogs and cats from smaller than miniature to bigger than St. Bernard, some of them have been very keen to help the eclusiers. Also seen some amazing garden both at the locks and in the villages. I have never seen such heavily laden tomato vines.

So only a few days left and we will be heading home again. Hopefully to enjoy a mild spring.
